Tecno Spark 50s and 50C: Budget Phones That Call and Text Without a Network

Dead zones are still a reality on hikes, at festivals or in rural areas. On October 16, 2026, Tecno unveiled two budget phones with a clever trick: they can call and text another phone without any network, according to GSMArena.

Tecno Spark 50C

The surprise Spark 50C is a 4G model with a Helio G81, 4 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, a 6.78-inch 120Hz screen, a 13MP camera and a 5,200mAh battery. It is rated IP68 and IP69, has an IR blaster and the same off-grid feature, called FreeLink 2.0. No price yet. ProPakistani also highlights the free calls and texts without internet.

Rocks take

Off-grid messaging is usually reserved for satellite phones or LoRa gadgets. Here it’s built into a cheap phone, but it only works between compatible Tecno devices, and the 1.5 km range is a best-case claim. For now, it’s an India launch with no European or US date.
