Apple HomeView, the $299 home display announced on October 13, skips the European Union entirely. Pricing and specs are in our HomeView launch story; this piece covers the EU exclusion and what to buy instead.
What Apple says
From the press release: “Apple HomeView is not available for sale in the European Union, as Siri AI is currently unavailable in iOS in the EU. Apple is working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward.” No timeline is given.
Where it launches
- U.S., Canada, UK, Australia, India and New Zealand: pre-orders open now, availability Friday, November 13.
- Singapore pre-orders start October 15; South Africa through Apple Authorized Resellers.
- Two $299 models: tabletop HomeView and HomeView (Wall Mounted), with Schneider Home mounts from $59.95.
Alternatives for EU homes
- HomePod mini 2 (€169 in France, October 30), an Apple Home hub. Our HomePod mini 2 story.
- Apple TV 4K (4th generation) (€349 in France, November 13), a home hub with Wi-Fi and Thread. Pricing and Thread hub details.
- Third-party displays such as Amazon Echo Show or Google Nest Hub, which don’t run the Apple Home app.
- DIY: a wall tablet running a Home Assistant dashboard. Home Assistant already supports HomeKit and Matter accessories, though Apple hasn’t documented how its new devices would work with it.
