ChatGPT could already write slide content or spit out a .pptx file. Now it has a real presentation editor. Since October 16, 2026, OpenAI has been rolling out ChatGPT Slides to eligible accounts, according to its Help Center.

Who gets it

Slides is available on Pro, Business and Enterprise plans with access to Space, on the web and in the desktop app. If you don’t see it yet, it hasn’t reached your account. Plus and Free users are not included in this rollout, and no date has been announced for them, Tenbrief notes. They can still ask ChatGPT to generate a .pptx file the old way.

How it works

  • Create: ask ChatGPT for a deck in Work, describe the audience and attach your source files, or start in Space with Create > Slide. Templates are supported, including your own.
  • Edit: change text, images, shapes, tables and charts directly, or select an element and click “Request edits”. You can ask ChatGPT to shorten a slide or update a chart with new data.
  • Collaborate: several people can edit at once, leave comments and @mention colleagues, or @mention ChatGPT to make changes. Comment-only access isn’t available at launch.
  • Present or export: present directly from ChatGPT, or export on the web to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF or Google Slides. You can also open a deck in PowerPoint or Keynote if they’re installed.

One catch on Windows: devices without a required component called MXC (including all Windows 10 PCs) fall back to plain .pptx files in the desktop app instead of collaborative Slides.

Rocks take

This puts ChatGPT in direct competition with PowerPoint Copilot and Google’s Gemini in Slides. OpenAI itself says to check content and formatting after export, and that’s good advice: AI-made slides can contain wrong numbers that look perfectly plausible. We’ll try it as soon as it reaches our account.
